I was only in the 7th grade in 2001, but I still remember that day like it was yesterday. I was scared because my Uncle, John Kavanagh, was FDNY and I didn't know if he would make it home. He knew FF Michael Lynch from the Gun Hill Gang. He was the chauffeur for 32 Truck for years before and after the September 11th attacks. Shortly after the attacks, my mom and I went into the Bronx to bring baked goods from my church's youth group to the firefighters and we could still see the pain in their faces from losing Michael. Although it is almost 9 years later the pain is still real and motivates me more and more during my time in the fire academy becoming a firefighter. I want to be like you, Michael. I want to be brave in the face of danger and help those who need it no matter what the price. God bless you and your 342 brothers who made the ultimate sacrifice on that day doing your jobs. YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN AND WILL ALWAYS BE MY HERO!

8/23/2010 I just finished reading the Halberstam book - Firehouse. I'm honored to be an American knowing that men like Michael Lynch walk among us and passed us into unknown dangers while we walk the other direction. God rest his soul and those who have served.

After 9/11 i was distraut and wanted to do something. I discovered an organization that was making silver bracelets with the names of police and firemen lost on that horrible day. Being a woman of faith, i ordered one and.the name i received was: Michael F. Lynch. I still wear the bracelet and pray for the Lynch family. I will be sending a donation in the very near future.

Michael, I know we never met. But, I had the utmost pleasure and honor of escorting your fantastic parents during the National Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial in D.C. in 2002. That was almost 8 years ago, and I still think about you, your family and your bride to be very often. Your Mom and Dad have told me so much about you, and I can't wait to meet you some day in heaven, and share firehouse stories. You seem like a really good guy to have around the firehouse. I wish we had been able to work together. I am still determined to take a trip to NY and visit your parents while I'm up there. May God continue to bless your family and your brothers at the fire house.

Michael You are in our thoughts today-as you are everyday-but with special wishes for your birthday. I cannot really imagine what it is like to celebrate in heaven but when I hear the Christmas Canon and think of you-I imagine that it is a glorious celebration. We love and miss you. I am Michael's cousin mary - I was in Denver Colorado on 9/11 and trying to celebrate the gift of life as Michael did. I missed my family in NY and it was odd to have to be away from home for the anniversary. Unexpectedly, at the end of the hike as we descended into the parking lot I saw a firetruck or two and the instantly recognizable Navy Blue FDNY shirts. My companions and I had stumbled upon the end of the stair climb fundraiser. I was brought to tears when I saw the wonderful firefighters who continue to honor the sacrifices made by their brothers and sisters on that day. They hugged me and told me that someone just ran the race in Michael's name and honor and with his picture. I got shivers and hoped desperately to meet you and to connect you with our family and the MLMF. Thank you so much for reaching out, Mary

Greetings - On September 11, 2009, I had the honor to participate in a 9/11 memorial stair climb at the Qwest Building in downtown Denver, Colorado. 343 firefighters climb 110 flights of stairs in bunker gear to honor our brothers that gave their lives. As we began the climb, we were each given a name, company, and picture of an FDNY firefighter. I was blessed and honored to carry Michael Lynch's memory that day. I came home that weekend and hugged my wife and three kids and began reading and sharing Michael's story. I will continue to keep his picture on my helmet and his spirit in my heart. I look forward to making regular donations to his foundation and will carry on his legacy to the best of my abilities. I will always remember the saying on his headstone "All of us are asked to live for others, some of us are asked to die for others". I cannot imagine the pain and suffering his friends and family have endured and I wish there was something more I could say or do to honor him. During the climb, I thought of him and his family. I hope it's OK that I carry him with me through my career and make him part of my company on Ladder 2 in Midwest City, Oklahoma.
